THE WITCHES' CAULDRON
This is one of the most spectacular natural features on the Pembrokeshire coast. As suggested by its name, it is a massive pit or cauldron set in a little way from the cliff-line. It is connected to the open sea by two tunnels through which the waves and the tides surge, creating thunderous echoes and other strange sounds which contribute to the place's spooky reputation. But the geology is straightforward enough. This coast is riddled with caves and here there used to be a particularly large one. One day the roof of the cave collapsed creating the cauldron we see today. Gradually, the debris from this roof collapse has been broken up and transported away by the work of the sea. The site can be reached along the coast path from Ceibwr.
