LOTS OF CROMLECHS!
PENTRE IFAN
This is probably the most spectacular cromlech in Wales. The supporting pillars and the massive capstone which we see today were once buried beneath a great earthen
mound which has been removed over the centuries by grave robbers and antiquarians in search of artifacts. This is a sacred place set aside by its builders in the Neolithic
period and located well away from their living area. It was used for the burial of the
dead and the actual burial chamber was quite small, located beneath the capstone. This part of Pembrokeshire is well
endowed with cromlechs, standing stones, stone alignments and enclosures.

CARREG COETAN ARTHUR
This small cromlech lies within the town boundaries of
Newport protected within a fenced enclosure in a housing estate! The capstone is a massive
one and one cannot but wonder at the engineering skills of the men who dragged it from its source and positioned it above the supporting pillars. The cromlech dates from about 3,500
BC and archaeologists have found bits of pottery and fragments of cremated human bone in and around the burial site.
